Muhammad Mu'min Al-Jaza'iri Al-Shirazi, a notable Iranian author in the late 11th and early 12th centuries (AH), was an exemplar writer in the field of Maqama writing. His works include several Maqamas including Maqama Nasikha, Tayf al-Khayal, and Khazanat al-Khayal, most part of which are available in form of manuscript. The Maqamas authored by Muhammad Mu'min Al-Jaza'iri differ from those of Badi' al-Zaman al-Hamadhani and Al-Hariri in terms of style, subject matter, and purpose. The writer deviates from the established norms of the Maqama genre, developing a unique approach that distinguishes his work within this literary tradition. Among all his Maqamas, a particular case in point is the “Swadiya”, the seventh Maqama in Tayf al-Khayal, which revolves around knowledge and wealth. In this work, the author breaks away from the principles established by Badi' al-Zaman al-Hamadhani and Al-Hariri. This study focuses on the role and types of narrators within “Swadiya”, highlighting its artistic and aesthetic value through a new methodological approach. The research pinpoints that the author employs a first-person narrative style in which events are combined with personal feelings and limited knowledge while expressing internal emotions without accessing characters’ thoughts. The other key feature concerns the use of multiple narrators, which provides the possibility of multiple perspectives. The study also emphasizes the use of epistolary form in this Maqama, arguing that it represents a new type of narrative form in Arabic literature.
