The Narrative Pattern of the Hero’s Fate in Arabic Science Fiction: A Study Based on Aldous Huxley’s Perspectives

This study examines the fate of the hero in modern Arabic sf within the context of technologically controlled societies. The central question concerns how these texts, through the imaginative framework of science fiction, represent human and social experiences while offering a narrative pattern for the destiny of the hero. Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World has been adopted as the theoretical framework, since it vividly portrays the crises of dehumanization and the consequences of technological dominance over the individual. The corpus of the research includes three notable Arabic works: the novel Al-Sayyid min Haql al-Subanikh by Sabri Musa, and the plays Rihla ila al-Ghad and Fi Sanat Milyun by Tawfiq al-Hakim. The research method combines library-based study with qualitative content analysis the findings reveal a recurring pattern in the fate of the heroes: confrontation with technology and dehumanization, descent into a crisis of meaning and identity, attempts at resistance and agency, and finally either social exclusion or annihilation. This pattern underscores the hero’s inability to adapt to a world where individual freedom is sacrificed for the sake of stability, comfort, and security. A comparison with Huxley’s model shows that while Arab writers draw inspiration from his vision, they simultaneously articulate their own critical rereading of the human–technology relationship. Thus, Arabic sf emerges not only as a space of artistic imagination but also as a powerful tool for social and cultural critique, offering, through the interplay of narrative and philosophy, new ways of rethinking the place of human beings in a technologized world.
