إنّ النظام المعقد للقواعد العربية ودلالتها متعددة المستويات على بناء الجملة جعل كتابة هذه اللغة وترجمتها أمراً صعباً. وفي الوقت نفسه، أصبحت ترجمة النصوص الأدبية إلى اللغة العربية أكثر صعوبة بكثير بسبب سماتها الجمالية وقدراتها الأدبية على المستويات الصرفية والدلالية والنحوية والتداولية والاختلافات الدلالية في البنية الفوقية والبنية التحتية، بحيث أصبحت دقة الترجمة وجودتها لا يمكن تتبعها في هذه اللغة من خلال المناهج والأساليب الشائعة في بعض الحالات. ومن هذه النقاط المفقودة في تقييم الترجمة العربية الوظائف الفكرية المبنية على النحو والدلالة، والتي تقوم على تفاعل هذين المستويين اللغويين تخلق معنى جديداً، نظراً لقلة اهتمام المترجمين والاعتماد على مناهج تميل إلى الحفاظ على البنية والمعنى، ومن ناحية أخرى فإنّه يسبب انهيار الدلالة وانقطاع في الكلام. تقوم هذه المقالة من خلال منهج تحليل المحتوى وبالإعتماد بإطار تقييم الترجمة المبتكرة من اللغويات الوظيفية المنهجية لهاليدي بدراسة الانهيارات الدلالية والفكرية المبنية على البنية في الترجمة العربية للرواية "النبي". ولهذا الغرض، وباستخدام الإطار النظري التطبيقي، تمّ تحقيق العينات الإنجليزية والعربية من الرواية المذكورة بناءً على تراجع أو تحسين الوظائف الفكرية. أظهرت نتائج هذه الدراسة أنّه على الرغم من نقل الوظائف الفوقية للتفكير بشكل صحيح في ترجمة معظم النصوص إلى العربية، لكنّها تواجه انهيار الوظائف الوصفية في العينة المترجمة استخداماً لأساليب نحوية ومعجمية غير مناسبة. نظراً لأنّه لايمكن اكتشاف هذه التحديات من خلال استخدام أساليب تقييم الترجمة الشائعة؛ تعتبر هذه الدراسة مفيدة من الناحية النظرية والتطبيقية لمدرسي اللغة والباحثين في الترجمة واللغويات التطبيقية والمترجمين.
