Abstract:
Simultaneously with the Renaissance Revolution in the 17th century and as humanity entered the age of science and civilization, a gateway was opened for greater communication between societies, and one of the most important openings was the familiarization of nations with each other's literary heritage.
At the same time, from the late 19th century onwards, sociology, as an interdisciplinary science, played an important role in examining and analyzing the social aspects of the literature of different nations and transferring their experiences to each other.
Therefore, examining the sociological approach in the field of literature in general and in the novel in particular, deals with the rereading of the impact and effects of society and the individuals within it, and the result of such an approach was the opening of a new horizon and a new window for researchers who seek to understand humans and human societies from this perspective.
Therefore, the present study, using a descriptive-analytical method and with the aim of identifying the most prominent social themes of the novel " Horob's Wardah " based on the structuration theory of Anthony Giddens, a famous English sociologist, psychologist, and theorist, has studied how the author, Dheyaa Al-Khalidi, uses literary techniques in the novel to express social concepts.
In this work, Al-Khalidi focuses on the novel's protagonist in an artistic, tangible, clear, realistic, and profound way. While narrating the adventures and events that occurred for "Wardah", he also analyzed the dire and complicated situation of traditional Iraqi society in the 1990s in various individual, family, social, economic, political, and cultural areas for the audience.
The results of the research indicate that this work is considered a successful social and literary genre based on Giddens's dualistic theory, and there is a relationship and mutual influence between its events and heroes and the social realities that form the basic structure of the novel.
And contrary to the views of structuralists and Marxists who consider social structure to be the only factor that completely dominates human actions and behavioral boundaries, the actors also have appropriate freedom and will according to the time and place conditions.
Although the novel " Horob's Wardah " is a completely fictional story, the author has depicted its events and characters in a way that provides the reader with a clear and tangible picture of the social conditions affected by war and occupation and its various effects.
