Abstract: (155 Views)
This study demonstrates that "Shadows on the Window" by Gha’ib Tu’ma Farman serves as a powerful medium for redefining historical truth through the lens of New Historicism. By highlighting discourses of Marxism, patriarchy, nationalism, and colonialism, the novel critiques societal inequalities and power structures in 1960s Iraq. It amplifies silenced voices—particularly those of women and the marginalized—revealing their resistance against dominant discourses. Through realistic narration and sophisticated techniques, Farman not only documents historical events but also actively reshapes cultural and social discourses, offering a nuanced reading of Iraq’s complex socio-political landscape. This analysis underscores the novel’s role in both reflecting and constructing historical truth, contributing to a deeper understanding of literature’s interplay with history.
