Magical realism is a modern narrative technique in which reality and fantasy intertwine, allowing unreal and imagined events to appear within the narrative fabric as entirely natural and authentic occurrences. This style is evident in the works of numerous Arab writers—including the renowned Egyptian author Sayyid Qutb, particularly in his novel “ Al-Medina Al-Mashoora” where the author seeks to create a modern narrative framework by employing imagination as an artistic tool to express his deepest thoughts and emotions. This study aims to examine the novel “ Al-Medina Al-Mashoora” through the lens of magical realism, employing a descriptive-analytical approach. The findings reveal that the author blends a realistic perspective with fantastical elements; he presents a realistic portrayal of settings and characters, subsequently interweaving them with elements such as magic, imagination, popular superstitions, and the like. Through this blend, the author seeks to shed light on the crises facing Egyptian society while presenting a critical perspective. The novel clearly highlights the traits of duality and ambiguity fundamental pillars of magical realism which the author employs to explore social contradictions and depict the state of bewilderment and disorientation experienced by modern individuals in their pursuit of happiness.
